Our toll-free helpline stands unique in the fact that beyond our listing for "Thursday's Child" there are 11 toll-free numbers and 45 toll-free directory listings.

Virtually all other "hotlines" answer, when they answer, with a recording that automatically places callers on hold until someone actually comes on line. We answer live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The difference between our helpline and other hotlines, is that we are proactive:

We are not just a listening line.
We will try and find solutions.
We are not afraid to give advice.
We will take on the role of advocate for the child.
We will not judge.
There are no fees for any of our services.

Call 800 directory and most 411 directories anywhere in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Pacific territories, ask for any of the following and you get us:

Suicide Hotline for Teens

1.866.210.3388

There are two other suicide lines listed; one can only be reached from Ohio, but even from Ohio, is just a voicemail recording. The other just has a voicemail as well, though it can be reached nationwide. Our helpline answers 24-7. Unlike other suicide hotlines, we take a proactive approach. We do not ask questions as to whether the caller has a plan or whom they have told or how they are feeling. We try and learn why they feel their lives are hopeless—did they just get fired? did they just have a break-up? did someone they loved just die? We try to get at the root of their emotions and fix the issue. If they were evicted, we try to find them shelter. If they were diagnosed with an illness, we try and find them a treatment and give them hope. We believe that if you just calm a person down, once the call is ended, the pain begins again. This to us is unacceptable.

The Federally funded ($6,100,000 per year) National Suicide Prevention Lifelines is not listed with toll-free directory services.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young adults and adolescents 15 to 24 years of age, ranking highest among Native American youth as does alcoholism. Attempted suicide ranks highest among female Hispanic teens, but in far greater numbers.
